A Little This Week
The next small step
We don't always get to see the whole path. Sometimes, enough light for the next step is enough.
Some weeks arrive with more questions than answers. The calendar is full, the decisions are waiting, and the thing we most want is a clear view of how it all turns out.
It would be easier, we think, if we could see a little farther down the road. If we knew which choice would work, when the waiting would end, or whether the small good things we do are making any difference.
But most of life doesn't offer that kind of view. A path through the woods turns before we can see where it leads. There is light on the ground in front of us, and then there is the bend.
Enough for today
Maybe faithfulness is often smaller than we imagine. Less like drawing the whole map, and more like taking the next step with care.
The call you have been meaning to make. The apology that doesn't need another explanation. Ten quiet minutes with someone who needs your attention. A little room in the day to notice that you, too, are tired.
None of those things answers every question. None of them fixes the whole world. But each one is a way of being present in the life you have been given.
Micah 6:8 offers a direction for that kind of life: justice, kindness, and a humble walk with God. Not a complete itinerary. A way to walk.
A way forward
There are things that deserve a plan. There are also days when the demand to have everything figured out keeps us from doing the good thing that is already within reach.
We can hold the larger questions honestly and still take a small step. We can ask for help. We can do the next kind thing. We can let today be today without making it carry the weight of every tomorrow.
Before this week gets away from you, pause for a moment. Think of one good thing that is yours to do. Something ordinary. Something possible.
Then begin there.
